Private meeting transcript extension for Chrome

Your Teams live captions, saved. Nothing announced.

Capture the captions Microsoft Teams shows during browser meetings. Automatically enable live captions after opt-in, save the transcript when you leave, and export it when you need notes.

Free · No account · No microphone recording · No developer cloud storage · Independent of Microsoft

Focused on one job

Capture captions. Keep control.

Automatic live captions

After your one-time opt-in, the extension recognizes a Teams browser meeting and tries to enable Teams' native live captions.

Quiet, invisible operation

No speech output, alerts, or recorder banners inside meetings. The extension doesn't turn on your microphone or create Teams recordings.

Auto-save after hang-up

When a meeting ends, the extension finalizes the captured captions automatically and keeps the transcript on your device.

Searchable meeting notebook

Review saved transcripts by meeting title, speaker, and timestamp. Rename or delete entries when you choose.

Export your own records

Download local transcript text in TXT, Markdown, JSON, or WebVTT. Exports happen only when you click.

Private by design

Meeting text stays in your browser's local IndexedDB. No developer API, analytics, account, or automatic upload.

Simple first-run instructions

How to save Microsoft Teams captions

  1. Install Teams Caption Recorder. Add the browser extension from the Chrome Web Store. Open its one-time setup page.
  2. Choose consent. Read the privacy summary and click Enable automatic captions and saving. Automatic capture stays OFF until you opt in.
  3. Join a Teams meeting in Chrome or Edge. Use the web version at teams.microsoft.com or teams.cloud.microsoft. The native Teams desktop app is not supported.
  4. Keep the meeting natural. The extension quietly tries to enable Teams live captions and captures available caption text. You won't hear an announcement from the extension.
  5. Leave and export. Hang up normally. The transcript finishes and stays saved in your browser. Click the extension icon → Open saved transcripts → export TXT, MD, JSON, or WebVTT.

Teams creates the live captions; this tool does not perform speech recognition. It cannot recover speech from before captions were turned on. Follow meeting-consent rules before capturing participants' words.

Answers before you install

Frequently asked questions

Does this extension record meeting audio?

No. It reads the text already displayed by Microsoft Teams' live captions. It does not access microphone audio, generate speech, or start a native Teams recording.

Will participants see a recording announcement?

The extension adds no audio or text announcements to the meeting. Teams may still show its own caption interface or system notifications. Always follow your organization's rules and applicable law.

Can I retrieve captions from an older Teams meeting?

No. It only captures text rendered in a supported Teams browser meeting while the extension is enabled. It is not a historical transcript downloader.

Where are transcripts stored?

Locally in the browser profile's IndexedDB. Nothing is automatically uploaded to the developer. You can export transcripts manually, delete individual records, or clear all extension storage.

Does it work with the Teams desktop application?

No. Use Microsoft Teams in Chrome or Edge. Captions are only captured when Teams renders them in a supported web page.

Who publishes this?

Teams Caption Recorder is an independent project, not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Microsoft.
